40 Cubic Yards
40 Yard Dumpster Rental in Odessa, TX
Our largest container — sized for major demolition, large construction sites, and commercial fit-outs across the Permian Basin.
- 40 ydCapacity
- 12 pickup-truck loadsPickup loads
- 5–6 tonsWeight allowance

The 40 yard is Kelly Bros Dumpster Rental's largest roll-off, at roughly 22 ft long by 7.5 ft wide by 8 ft tall and holding about 12 pickup-truck loads. It's the size built for major demolition, large construction sites, and commercial fit-outs — jobs generating more volume than a 30 yard comfortably handles, the kind that show up regularly as Odessa and the broader Permian Basin continue growing around the oil and gas industry that's anchored the region's economy since the first well came in southwest of Odessa in December 1926.
Weight allowance runs 5–6 tons, matched to the scale of demolition and large-site debris. Because West Texas sees genuine severe-weather risk in the spring — including an EF2 tornado that tracked through Gardendale in March 2012 — our largest boxes are also the ones we lean on for major storm-damage cleanup when a job calls for it. Call (432) 237-3426 with your project scope, and we'll confirm the 40 yard is the right fit.
What fits in a 40 yard dumpster
- Major demolition — full structure or large outbuilding
- Large new-construction sites
- Commercial fit-outs and buildouts
- Big whole-property renovations
- Large-scale storm-damage cleanup
- Multi-building or multi-phase job sites
- Land-clearing and site-prep debris
- Large industrial or warehouse cleanouts
Best Fit: Major Demolition and Large Construction
When a job produces more debris than a 30 yard can reasonably absorb — a full structure demolition, a large new-construction site, or a multi-phase build — the 40 yard's 12-pickup-truck-load capacity keeps the site moving without constant swap-outs. See our demolition debris and construction dumpster rental pages for how we support larger sites.
Commercial Fit-Outs
Commercial buildouts and fit-outs — stripping a space down before a new tenant moves in, or a large-scale renovation of a commercial property — generate a heavy, steady volume of debris. The 40 yard is our standard recommendation for that kind of job. See our commercial dumpster rental page for more.
40 Yard vs. 30 Yard
If your job is a single-home renovation or a smaller commercial cleanout rather than a full demolition or large new-build, the 30 yard may be the more efficient choice — it's easier to place and still handles 9 pickup-truck loads. Call (432) 237-3426 and describe the site; we'll size it based on what similar jobs across the Permian Basin have actually needed.
What Doesn't Fit and Weight Considerations
The 5–6 ton allowance is built for demolition and large-site debris, but concrete, brick, and masonry are dense enough to hit that ceiling before the box looks full — let us know the material mix so we can plan accordingly. Lead-acid batteries are barred from landfill disposal under 30 TAC § 330.15, with Texas Water Code § 7.185 making improper disposal a Class A misdemeanor. Whole tires must be cut or shredded before landfill disposal. Asbestos is never permitted in any container — on older-building demolition, that always requires a licensed abatement contractor before any debris comes down. See our construction debris disposal guide for the full rundown.

The 40 yard in Odessa driveways
The 40 yard shows up most often on active demolition and construction sites across Odessa, Midland, and the Permian Basin, where it typically sits directly on the job site rather than a residential driveway. Placement on private property or a private job site never requires a permit anywhere in our service area. For street placement inside Odessa city limits, the City of Odessa's Engineering Department handles it under the City's Code of Ordinances; given the 40 yard's larger footprint, we recommend confirming requirements with the City well ahead of delivery. In unincorporated Ector County (West Odessa, Notrees, Penwell, Pleasant Farms, Gardendale), Ector County Development Services is the right office, with no cost to obtain that permit. Job sites in Midland, Andrews, Stanton, Monahans, Crane, Wickett, or Kermit fall under that city's own separate process, and TxDOT's Odessa District handles encroachment permits where a state highway right-of-way, rather than an ordinary city street, is involved.
See our locations page for our full service area, or call (432) 237-3426 to plan a large job or site delivery.

What's the weight limit on a 40 yard dumpster?
5–6 tons, sized for major demolition and large construction or commercial-site debris.
Is the 40 yard right for a full house demolition?
Yes, it's our standard size for a full structure demolition. See our demolition debris page or call (432) 237-3426 to confirm for your specific structure.
Can I get a 40 yard for a commercial fit-out?
Yes, it's a common choice for stripping out or renovating a commercial space. See our commercial dumpster rental page for more.

Not on private property or a private job site. Street placement inside Odessa city limits runs through the City's Engineering Department — given the 40 yard's size, call us well ahead of delivery so we can help confirm requirements.
